Guide to Tairawhiti
This Polytehnic has a combination of state of the art facilities and real life style. The Staff at the International Centre is very friendly, approachable and they seem to enjoy having "International Students" around.
We found that Tairawhiti possesses a very well organised structure, making it easy to deal with them.
About Tairawhit and Gisborne
Get into Gisborne - Tairawhiti … First City in the World to See the Sunw Zealand
Gisborne is out there! Way out there. This is the most easterly region of New Zealand where each new day’s sunrise is the first on earth.
Great beaches, excellent surf, good cafés and bars and you can reach any part of the city in a short time by bicycle.
A warm climate – it’s just about always sunny (okay, it does rain sometimes) and with summer temperatures often reaching 30oC it’s referred to as the California of the South Pacific.
It’s a landscape of sandy beaches, blue Pacific surf, golden vineyards and fruit laden orchards and it’s where a rich mixture of Maori and European cultures grow side by side.
There’s heaps to do
Gisborne and the Tairawhiti region is a great place for all sorts of recreation. There’s a covered Olympic swimming pool and an indoor aquatic centre plus grounds for all major winter and summer team sports including one of New Zealand’s top golf courses. There’s also plenty of scope for outdoor pursuits in the surrounding countryside. Mountain biking, kayaking, hunting, hiking, bush walking, trout fishing and camping excursions are easily organised.
Surfing, boardsailing, yachting, canoeing, rowing, sea fishing, surf lifesaving, outrigger canoeing and snorkelling are all water sport options.
And for the more extroverted, Gisborne has a long-standing reputation as a lively "party town".
Live Cheaply
Perhaps one of the best reasons to study at Tairâwhiti Polytechnic is that you don’t need lots of money to enjoy this great lifestyle. Rental accommodation is cheaper in Gisborne than almost anywhere else in New Zealand. The programme fees are reasonable and all those beaches and bushwalks come free. If you live in the city, it’s very easy to get by without a car as the main shopping and entertainment areas are only short walks or bike rides away. Better still, many businesses in town are supportive of students and offer great student discounts.
Transport Links
Gisborne is serviced by daily air and bus services to Auckland, Wellington and other North Island centres. A bus from Wairoa travels daily to Tairâwhiti Polytechnic.
Above all, Gisborne is a city where you will feel safe and welcome from the day you arrive.
